Prof. mr. A.F.M. Dorresteijn
Adriaan Dorresteijn (1948) is professor of Transnational Corporate Law at Utrecht University (http://www.uu.nl/EN/Pages/default.aspx).
Adriaan Dorresteijn graduated in 1974 (Utrecht University, Dutch private law program). He started his career at the University of Amsterdam as associate professor (business law). In 1989 he defended his doctoral thesis at Utrecht University (Conflicts of interest of directors).
He has been dean of the Faculty of Law, Economics and Governance (2000-2008). During his deanship (2000-2008) the cooperation between Washingtion University School of Law and Utrecht University School of Law intensified considerably, resulting in the Transnational Law Program carried out by the two schools and sponsored by the Atlantis program.
Prior to joining Utrecht University, Adriaan Dorresteijn was appointed professor of Private Law at the Open University of the Netherlands and Jean Monnet Professor of European Corporate Law at the University of Bielefed (Germany). He practiced as a corporate law adviser with Pricewaterhouse Coopers. Currently, he functions as Director of the Legal Expertise Center of AKD (a mid-sized Dutch law firm) where he is in charge of legal knowledge management.
Adriaan Dorresteijn published many books and articles on corporate law and related areas, both in Dutch and English. Among his publications in English are European Corporate Law (Kluwer Law International, 2009) and ‘Corporate Governance Codes: Origins and Perspectives’, European Company Law (June 2004/Issue 2, p. 43-56).
Furthermore, among his related activities are membership of the Scientific Council of European Company Law (quarterly, since 2004) and of the editorial board of Maandblad voor accountancy en Bedrijfseconomie (since 2002).
